As an avid cyclist and mechanical engineer that has been commuting by bike to jobs - rain or shine- for over 20 years, I was frustrated with struggling to get certain tires - especially flat-resistant tires - back on my rims after repairing a flat. I’ve experienced first-hand - and watched others engage in - the painful struggle to get a tire back on the rim on a cold day in the rain.
There are “shop-grade” bead jacks made for workshops that give plenty of leverage but they are too large to carry in saddle bags. I envisioned a folding bead jack that I could put in my saddle bag and forget about - until the occasional flat-tire occurred. The design aim was to get the mechanical advantage (leverage) of standard bead jacks in a portable form-factor so bikers have it when they need it…. on the road. Thus, was born; The Talon bike tool.
